Boys Basketball Roundup: Northville advances to tourney title game

NORTHVILLE - Kalob Russell finished with 16 points to lead host Northville to a 62-45 win over Duanesburg in the opening round of the John Woodward Holiday Tournament.

Jason VanNostrand scored 14 points for the Falcons (4-4 overall), while Tim Monette added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Kevin Lenehan scored 16 points to lead Duanesburg.

In the other first-round contest, Doane Stuart posted a 52-33 win over Galway.

Ira Ganz scored 13 points to lead Doane Stuart (4-3 overall), while Rory Siy finished with 11 points.

Deshawn Speights added 10 points for Doane Stuart, which will face Northville in today's championship game at 3 p.m.

Galway (0-7 overall) will face Duanesburg in the consolation game at 1 p.m.

CANAJOHARIE - Conner Brown finished with a game-high 18 points to lead Schoharie to a win over Johnstown in the first game of the Andy Palmer Christmas Classic at Canajoharie High School.

The Indians outscored the Sir Bills 15-7 in the final quarter to earn the win.

Evan Ottman and James Sackett each scored 13 points for Schoharie (5-1 overall).

Ricky Mitchell scored 15 points to lead Johnstown (2-5 overall), while Jamal Vazquez added nine points.

Johnstown will face Canajoharie tonight in the second game of the round-robin tournament.

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Alex Hart scored 14 points to lead St. Johnsville to a win over Middleburgh in the opening round of the Coach Cutspec Tournament.

The Saints outscored the Knights 19-7 in the first half on their way to the win.

Dylan Klock finished with 10 points for St. Johnsville.

Sean Green scored six points to lead Middleburgh.

St. Johnsville (2-4 overall) will face Dolgeville in its second game of the round-robin tournament today at 7:30 p.m.

COOPERSTOWN - Stephen Belden scored a game-high 14 points, leading Fort Plain to an opening round win over Cooperstown on Friday.

Chris Hanifin added 10 points for the Hilltoppers (6-2 overall), who will face Sidney in today's championship game.

Ethan Bliss led Cooperstown, which will face Cobleskill-Richmondville in the consolation game, with nine points.
