Benton notches 300th career victory

December 29, 2012
By PAUL WAGER (sports@leaderherald.com) , The Leader Herald

DOLGEVILLE - With 299 career wins heading into this weekend's Mountain Duals at Dolgeville Central School, Amsterdam wrestling coach Ken Benton wasted little time reaching the 300-win mark Friday.

The Rams rolled to a 66-19 win over Rome Free Academy in their opening match to give Benton, who has coached the team for 20 years, his milestone victory.

"It's probably an indication that I've been coaching a long time," Benton said. "I've got to give credit to my assistant and associate coaches who have helped me and help make it all worthwhile. I owe an awful lot to them. We've also done it on the backs of our wrestlers who have been crucial to our program's success."
