JOHNSTOWN - A local man was charged by city police early Thursday after becoming irate at City Hall, damaging the front door and fighting with officers.

Police said George E. Ahrens, 27, of 6 E. Canal St., was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He will appear later in City Court.

Police said he came to the police station at City Hall at 2:03 a.m. Thursday to lodge a complaint. While doing so, he became upset and intentionally damaged the front door of the building, according to the report.
