ST. JOHNSVILLE - State police at Fonda said an investigation led to a man being charged Thursday with fifth-degree insurance fraud.
Police said Walter E. Davis, 57, of St. Johnsville also was charged at 12:07 p.m. Thursday with first-degree falsifying business records.
Police said the charges came after a month-long investigation that showed Davis, owner of W. Davis Insurance in the village, allegedly issued fraudulent certificates of liability insurance to customers and accepted premium payments for those certificates. Police said Davis allegedly took the payment himself and attempted to cover the fraudulent certificates by altering records of the transaction.
Davis was issued an appearance ticket for Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at Village Court.
