Council makes city appointments

JOHNSTOWN - Several city appointments for the new year were made at the Common Council meeting Monday at City Hall.

Mayor Sarah Slingerland made five appointments to the city Examining Board of Plumbers. Members received three-year terms, effective Jan. 1.

Appointed by the mayor were: Fire Chief Bruce Heberer, chief building inspector, of 300 County Highway 107; Deputy City Engineer Jason Scott of 109 E. State St.; Glenn Valachovic of 315 E. Main St.; David R. Hoover of 103 S. William St.; and Richard Palsgraf of 13 S. Comrie Ave.

"Thanks to all those people for volunteering to serve on this board," Slingerland said.

The council also reappointed Louis Pollak of 1 Mason St. and Edward Donnan of 707 S. Perry St. to the city Board of Health for terms expiring Dec. 31, 2015.

"Thanks to those two gentlemen for continuing their volunteerism," Slingerland said.

In other action:

Slingerland said the contract for next year shows a "little decrease in cost," with city officials noting the current agreement is about $12,000.
