I remember having this conversation with my sister, Cori.
Me: "Why are you adopting a family for Christmas when you can barely afford a Christmas for your own family right now?"
Cori: "I hope I never need help, but if I do, maybe the good things I try to do will return to my family."
If you were able to attend the benefit bowling tournament held for Cori Pedrick at Perry Lanes on Dec. 1, you saw how the good things were returned. The love and generosity shown to my sister is beyond words. We will try to personally thank everyone who donated by a card or letter, but for this letter, there is just not enough room.
However, a special thank you needs to be published to friends who are proof angels walk the earth. A special thank you to Fox and Winnie Pollak, Colleen Ioele, Amy Praught, Lynn Bennett, Lisa Douglas, Hope Sweesey, Wendy Blowers, Suzanne Fields, Ellen Praught, Cathy Preston, MaryJo Bush, Mark Winslow, Beth Brower, Kim Heroth, Karl Stewart, Team Jack Callery Real Estate, Team Teetz & Peeps, L & L Embroidery and the Perry Lanes staff.
My sister, Stacy, my brother, Ron, and I thank you all; our parents, Ron and Alexis Pedrick, thank you; Cori's children Erica, Timmy, Ross, India, Ariana and Jordan thank you; and Cori's rock Bruce thanks you. The hugs you gave, the stories you told, the tears you shed and the wonderful donations for the raffles were beyond our wildest dreams.
The following is a letter Cori wrote that was read at the benefit: "To my family, lifelong friends and new friends - There are no words to truly express how thankful I am for each and every one of you. This experience thus far has been very overwhelming, but all the support and prayers from all of you make each day a little easier. Sorry I could not be there today, but under my doctor's suggestion, they thought it was best I stay home. You all mean so much to my family and I. Every night, I thank my lucky stars I have so much love and support to help me get through this, and I'm confident I will. My saying is: you have to believe to receive. I truly believe I will receive my gift of a healthy cancer-free life. Thank you all again. I love you all."
