GLOVERSVILLE - Superintendent Michael Vanyo told the Board of Education on Monday the search for the middle school principal has been narrowed to three candidates and he will meet with them Thursday.

Vanyo wouldn't identify the three candidates.

"We will do background checks, interviews and hopefully be bringing them in front of the board [soon]," he told the board.

The district accepted the resignation of former Principal James Christopher in October and named Helen Stuetzel the interim principal while the district looks for a permanent replacement.

The board also voted to collectively approve several personnel appointments.

Among the appointments were several spring head coaches and a winter head coach totaling $14,523. The newly appointed coaches include Brie Malagisi for winter cheerleading; Mike Bruce for tennis; Bruce Bump for softball; Mike DeMagistris, an unpaid coach for baseball; and Stephen Wendt for outdoor track. Anne Niles was also hired as indoor cycling instructor at $20 per class, but her pay will be offset by class fees.

S. Dawn Smouse will start as a teaching assistant today at five hours a day for $10.75 an hour. Smouse will replace Jodi Thompson, who moved to a full-time teaching assistant position. Smouse will be serving a probationary appointment until June 10.

Two food-service appointments were also made. Marie LaFever received an increase in hours to account for the retirement of Sally Malagisi, and Melody Miller was added as a substitute food service employee at $8.65 an hour - both effective today.

Deborah Walters was assigned as school secretary for $10.64 per hour and typist for $10.67 per hour.

And Tammy Albers, Sharon Larson, Melody Miller and Kari Morrison were hired as substitute teacher aides.
