Why does family need to be punished?

December 10, 2012
The Leader Herald

In response to Mike Blaha's letter to the editor:

I am the daughter of Mr. Ralph VanAlstyne. Yes, I do not agree with what my dad has done. But there are two sides to the story.

My father has been out of these organizations for years, and restitution was being paid from his commissary money. Also, when he does get out, his home will be sold for more restitution.

I have been told that, allegedly, money has still been missing. Where has that money gone?

I know he has done wrong, but rest assured, my father is a good father, good husband and a Purple Heart recipient. He and his family are extremely remorseful. We also are trying to deal with this. You are all entitled to your opinion, but do his grandchildren and the rest of the family have to keep being punished for this?

Also, why is it that only 13 members showed up to a VFW meeting when there are more than 200 members? Makes you wonder.

God bless all veterans and their families.
