Anthony "Ant" Simmons, age 40, Sunrise July 3, 1972, Sunset, November 16, 2012. Anthony Westbrook Simmons was born to Harry and the late Doris McCloud Simmons on a bright and sunny day in "Bed Stuy" Brooklyn, N.Y.
Anthony, being the smallest of the Simmons crew, was affectionately nicknamed "Ant" by his cousin Tracy, and his nickname followed him through adulthood. Ant lost his mom, Doris, at a very young age, and was raised by his dad, Harry, Aunt Gloria, known to all as "Big Gamma," his second mom, Betty Hershey, known as Miss. Betty, and his cousin Val.
He attended school in Brooklyn, N.Y, while being an upstanding member of the Bed-Stuy "I Have A Dream" Program. Being a typical teenager, Ant had his share of Inner City mischief, and he made the choice to move to upstate N.Y. to be closer to Val. It is here that he met Sheena, and they were anxiously awaiting the arrival of their son Montrell. Being with Sheena and the arrival of Montrell aided in Ant taking charge of his life and grow into the adult his family and friends knew.
Anthony leaves his memory to be celebrated by his father, Harry, Miss. Betty, his oldest son, Anthony Jr., his fiance, Sheena Skaine, his grandson, his immediate family, and his extended upstate N.Y. family and friends.
Anthony may be gone physically, but he will never be forgotten. "I will love and miss you son, your loving pops."
A memorial service for Anthony will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at 2:00 pm, at the Amico Funeral Home, 150 South Main Street, Gloversville, N.Y, with Rev. R.W. Williams. Cremation took place at Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley, N.Y.
