This letter is in response to Cindy VanAlstyne's letter to the editor on Nov. 16 about her father, Ralph VanAlstyne.
Your father is nothing but a common thief. Unfortunately. He knew how to do it well. Because of him, the Gloversville VFW post is just a memory. The kinds of mistakes your father made will never be forgiven.
As far as leaving your family alone, you can plead all you want, because for a Purple Heart recipient such as your dad to do what he did, the whole family deserves to suffer. Your father and your family deserves every bit of harassment and badgering that you all get.
If it was a family member of mine, I would be embarrassed and disgusted with them. As far as I am concerned, your father is not a veteran and not a person. He managed to destroy an organization that had roots in the community; that will never be forgiven.
I am a veteran of a foreign war. I spent 11 years serving this country. I am more interested in pride than shame. I hope your dad never gets out of prison.
