JOHNSTOWN - A Gloversville man was sentenced Tuesday in Fulton County Court to 17 years in state prison for sexually assaulting a child.

Michael Mauro, 51, of 7 Burr St., was sentenced by Judge Richard C. Giardino to prison and 10 years of post-release supervision. The judge granted an order of protection for the victim.

Sentencing was based on the defendant's Oct. 11 guilty plea before Giardino to one felony count of first-degree course of sexual conduct.

Mauro was arrested by Gloversville police June 11 and charged with a felony count of predatory sexual assault against a child.

Police said he had sexual contact with an 8-year-old girl. An investigation was initiated after the Gloversville Police Detective Unit was contacted by Fulton County Child Protective Services and advised of an alleged sexual offense against a child, police said.
