The unemployment rates in Fulton and Montgomery counties improved slightly from September, but remained higher than they were a year ago.
Fulton County's unemployment rate in October was 10.1 percent, according to the state Department of Labor. The county's rate in September was 10.6 percent, and the rate in October 2011 was 9.4 percent.
Fulton County had the third-highest unemployment rate among counties in the state, data showed.
Montgomery County's unemployment rate in October was 9.6 percent, down from 9.9 percent in September but up from 8.9 percent in October 2011, the Labor Department statistics showed.
Meanwhile, Hamilton County's unemployment rate went up in October. The rate was 7.4 percent, compared with 6.8 percent in September and 6.2 percent in October 2011.
