On November 21, 2012, Candace "Candy" L. Hertik, 53, of Greenfield Center, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ after a ten year battle with breast cancer. She died at home peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Candy is survived by her husband, Walter; her two children, Hannah and Luke; her father, Budd Waldo Henderscheid and stepmother, Alice Henderscheid of Center, N.D.; and her sisters, Nita, Renee, Teresa; and her brothers, Monte, Dan, and Ed. She was predeceased by her mother, Shirley Jacobson.
Candy spent over 12 happy years working at Rosa Road Orthopedics for Dr. Robert Leopold in Schenectady before becoming a homemaker in 1999. An aspiring golfer, Candy spent several years playing mini-tours in Florida chasing her dream of someday playing on the LPGA. A back injury sidelined the dream but she continued to work and play at golf clubs in Florida and New York.
Candy was very active in volunteering, spending countless hours in her community and at the Greenfield Elementary School. At school, she was very dedicated to helping with all the various functions, including "Popcorn Days" where all the children knew her as the "Popcorn Lady." In her spare time she loved to knit, golf, and walk many miles, so she was prepared to participate in numerous 24 Hour Relay For Life Walks.
A memorial service was held with Deacon Steven Boxley officiating. Deacon Boxley, who is a longtime friend and spiritual guide, officiated the service. All friends and family are invited to celebrate Candy's journey to her new home in heaven.
