FONDA-The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors will have a special meeting Tuesday to possibly alter the proposed 2013 budget.
The meeting, scheduled for 5 p.m., will allow members of the Board of Supervisors to make final changes to the budget, with 16 resolutions on the agenda that could alter the proposal.
The $92 million preliminary plan was released in early October. The county was looking at budget figures that showed a $4 million shortfall. To bridge the gap, the preliminary budget uses the fund balance and increases revenue estimates from sales tax by $900,000 and boarding inmates at the county jail by $500,000.
Many of the possible changes mirror the Finance Committee's suggestion to lay off 35 employees to avoid using the fund balance.
However, there also is a proposed resolution to increase of the use of fund balance, proposed by Amsterdam 5th Ward Supervisor Michael Chiara, from about $1.37 million to about $1.87 million.
Supervisors also are considering cutting funding to outside agencies, including the Office for the Aging and Cornell Cooperative Extension.
