AMSTERDAM - The Montgomery County Historical Society will present Deck the Doors at Amsterdam City Hall, 61 Church St., a celebration of wreaths and a silent auction to benefit Old Fort Johnson, to begin Saturday and will run through Dec. 1.
The second annual event brings area businesses, designers, organizations and individuals together to create wreaths that will decorate City Hall. All the wreaths will be available to bid on in a silent auction. The proceeds will go to the Old Fort Johnson's Flood Recovery Fund.
This year, there also will be handmade stockings to bid on as well.
City Hall will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for viewing and bidding on the wreaths and stockings. Both days local author Bob Cudmore will be speaking on local history at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. and signing his latest book, "Stories from the Mohawk Valley: the Painted Rocks, the Good Benedict Arnold and More."
The Amsterdam High School select chorus will perform at 2 p.m. Saturday and Rachelle Cotugno will be singing holiday carols at 1 p.m. Sunday.
The bidding will continue through the next week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will conclude at 3 p.m. Dec. 1 when there will be guided tours of City Hall from 1 to 3 p.m. The winning bidders can take their wreaths home.
