Erwin C. Sowles Sr., 91, formerly of Fish House Road, Galway, passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2012.
He was born in the Town of Providence on August 17, 1921, a son of Erwin and Ruby Bradt Sowle, and was educated in local schools. Erwin joined the U.S. Army and later met and married Audrey E. Banks, now deceased.
For over fifty years he lived and worked in Spokane Valley, Washington, where he owned and operated two service stations. Erwin retired from Ace Concrete Co. in 1974. He returned to this area in 1994.
Mr. Sowles was a longtime member of the Orchard Masonic Lodge #200 and a former member of the Valley Baptist Church, both in Opportunity, WA.
His son, Erwin Charles Sowles, Jr. died July 7, 2010.
Survivors include three daughters, Charline Meacham and Shirley Ann Taylor, both of Puyallup, WA, and Sherrill Lovelace of Las Vegas, NV; two brothers, Alex and Louis Sowle both of Galway; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A military graveside service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
