Police: Teen stole items from garage

AMSTERDAM - City police said officers arrested a local teen Wednesday for breaking into a garage where a domestic violence charity stored items.

Carlos Figueroa, 18, of 3 Henrietta St., was charged by police with third-degree burglary and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

Police said a member of the Albany-based charity Stop The Violence, an organization established to assist victims of violent crime, went to a garage at 3 Henrietta St., where the charity stored donated items, Tuesday. The member said when she was last there Oct. 31, police said, the site was secure.

On Wednesday, police said, the member found the access door had been damaged and several items were missing.

While speaking to Figueroa, police said, officers discovered some of the missing property inside his apartment, at the same address as the garage. The property was seized as evidence.

Several other items still have not been recovered, and police say the investigation is ongoing.

Figueroa was held for arraignment.
