Clarence P. Van Allen Jr. "Bud," age 81, of Mayfield, N.Y., passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on May 23, 1931, in Gloversville, N.Y., the son of the late Clarence P. Van Allen Sr. and Edna Lawton Van Allen.
He was a United States Navy veteran. He was employed for many years by DK Fiber of Broadalbin. He was also employed by the Mayfield School District as a bus driver and custodian, retiring after 25 years as Superintendent of Building and Grounds.
Bud enjoyed spending time at home with his family and his dog, Daisy.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Williams Van Allen, whom he married December 11, 1953. The shared 58 years together. Also surviving are one son, Michael M. Van Allen (Michelle) of Utica; two daughters, Michelle Van Allen of Mayfield and Marie Van Allen of Gloversville; one brother, Donald Van Allen of Stratford; one sister, Edith Reeves of Gloversville; four grandchildren, Patty Van Allen Frank and her companion, Matt Drumm of Frankfort, Michael P. Van Allen (Ashley) of Northville, Melissa Van Allen Rounds of Wichita, Kansas and Benjamin Van Allen of Gloversville; seven great-grandchildren, Gianna and Kamryn Frank of Frankfort, Adrianna and Michael P. Van Allen Jr. of Northville, Anthony, Alexis and Gabe Rounds of Wichita, Kans.; one sister-in-law, Ida Williams of Mayfield. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.
He was predeceased by his brother, Charles Van Allen Sr. (Florence); and his two sisters, Julia Hayes (Art) and Jeannine Hayes (Doug).
Friends may call on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gloversville Funeral Service, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at noon in the Mayfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078, or the Mayfield Fire Company.
