GLOVERSVILLE - Megan Hornbeck always has enjoyed helping others feel their best. That's part of the reason she decided to open the city's newest beauty salon, Meg's Beauty and Beyond.
Beauty and Beyond, 104 Broad St., opened in September. The salon, located in what was once a grocery store, was built from a completely gutted space that now offers a relaxing atmosphere with two hair stations, a nail station and area for waxing.
"I loved the open concept. When we bought it, it was completely bare," she said.

The salon offers affordable pricing on haircuts for men and women, color, waxing, perms, styling, feathers, makeup application and gel manicures by stylist and nail technician Jessica Strevy-Portis.
Hornbeck worked at Lexington for seven years before injuring her back. She has an associate degree in human services and attended the Paul Mitchell School in Schenectady where she met Strevy. Many may recognize her from Fantastic Sam's.
Because of Hornbeck's work at Lexington, she said it was important to her to offer a salon that is completely wheelchair accessible. The salon also features an adjustable sink to help meet everyone's needs.
"I wanted a place that can make anybody feel comfortable," she said.
Strevy said she enjoys renting her space in the salon for exactly that type of atmosphere - friendly and comfortable.
"We went to school together and became friends," Strevy said. "We have a lot of laughs and fun together, and it's close to home for me."
Hornbeck thanked her family and husband for the support system they provided as she worked to open her first salon.
