FORT PLAIN - A local man has been sent to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on charges that he threatened people with an ax at a Beck Street home.
According to village police, Harold Stauring, 75, of 102 Main St., was charged Saturday with third-degree burglary, second-degree menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.
According to Fort Plain Police Chief Robert Thomas III, Stauring and the victim had been in a legal dispute over a house at 15 Beck St. After a legal ruling sided with the victim, Thomas said, Stauring refused to give up his position.
At around 10 a.m. Saturday, Stauring allegedly went into the home, holding an ax and threatening the occupants.
Police responded, placing Stauring under arrest. Stauring was arraigned and sent to jail in lieu of bail. According to Thomas, Stauring was still in custody as of Tuesday.
