FONDA - Montgomery County has declared a state of emergency as Hurricane Sandy approaches the region.
Because of the potentially dangerous conditions, there must be no unnecessary travel in the county, according to a news release.
Travel may become treacherous throughout the county and conditions may worsen, the news release said.
Motorists violating the order may be ticketed, the news release said.
The Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management, the New York State Police and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department announced the declaration.
Previously, the village of Fonda declared a state of emergency.
