Mary Louise Matura Shepard passed on Wednesday morning, October 24, 2012, in Scotia, N.Y., after gracefully battling small cell lung cancer for over two years. She departed with her family by her side.
MaryLou was a lifelong resident of Gloversville, N.Y. born on October 30, 1934. She graduated from Gloversville High School, the General Motors Accounting School, and the American Heart Association Grant Writing School. Her education and personality, always a natural leader, led her to a long, successful, and fulfilling career. She was the Office Manager at Shepard Pontiac Inc., the Associate Director of the American Heart Association for Fulton and Montgomery Counties, and the Executive Director of the Jewish Community Center of Fulton County.
Mary Lou's greatest joys came from spoiling her family and spending time and assisting her friends. Mary Lou will be met at Heaven's gate by her parents, Mario and Angelina DiPalma as well as her beloved husbands, Stephen A. Matura (died 1974) and Robert Shepard (died 1991). She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Gavin Peck of Schenectady; her grandsons, Stephen of New York, N.Y., and Eric of Boston, Mass.; as well as many cousins; and her aunt, Julia Tropia of Gloversville.
Mary Lou was a devout member of Saint Mary of Mount Carmel's Roman Catholic Church in Gloversville, and later of St. Luke's of Schenectady. She asked that Doctor Thomas Goodman and the staff of Upstate Oncology Hematology, PLLC, and the nurses at Baptist Health Nursing (in particular her friends, Maria and Jodi), be especially thanked for their hard work, dedication, and friendship.
