AMSTERDAM - Interfaith Partnership Montgomery County and members of the Amsterdam Homeless Committee are aiming to open a three-story shelter Nov. 1 on East Main Street to serve the homeless.

The first floor will provide emergency shelter from November through April and traditional housing from May through October, while the top two floors will provide permanent housing for low-income families. The shelter guests will be provided with assistance in obtaining employment and housing as well as developing life skills necessary for successful independent living.

"Our goal is to model the quality of the Albany programs and make a difference in Montgomery County," Executive Director Janin Robitaille said in a news release.
