Mary E. Harvey Russo of Wilmington, Del., passed away surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 18, 2012. Mary was the daughter of Anna and Joseph Harvey, born in 1926 in Little Falls, N.Y. Mary attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated in 1944 from Gloversville High School. She married John Russo in 1948 and moved to Yellow Springs, Ohio, where her husband attended Antioch College.
After moving to Delaware in 1969, Mary worked for the state of Delaware in the Mount Pleasant and Brandywine School District for over 30 years. During her professional career she held administrative positions in the guidance department and was the executive secretary to the principal of Mount Pleasant High School. In addition to working full time, Mary's love for fashion gave way to 20 years in retail sales at Pomeroy's and later Boscov's. Mary then enjoyed semi-retirement while working in the Administrative Office of the Brandywine School District.
Mary was predeceased by: her husband of 60 years, John R. Russo; her parents, Joseph and Anna Harvey; and her brother, Joseph Harvey.
Mary is survived by her sons, Mark Russo, David Russo and wife, Eileen, Ronald Russo and wife, Debbie; and daughter, Andrea Houser and husband, Ken. Along with her beloved children, Mary is survived by her grandchildren, Nicole Botsford and husband, Brian, Anthony Russo and wife, Darcey, Michael Russo, Adrianna Russo, Mark and Matthew Russo, Lauren and Elizabeth Giampietro, and Katie Houser. Mary was also blessed by her great-grandchildren, Dylan and Cameron Botsford, Davis, Makenna, and Cade Russo, Jordan A. DiMarco; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth and Barbara Russo; along with her many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
Visitation will be held at Chandler Funeral Home, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, Del. on Thursday, October 25, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26, 2012, at noon at Chandler Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, Bear, Del.
