Joyce F. Manning, 85, of Hopedale, Mass., and a former resident of Northville, N.Y., died Saturday, October 20, 2012, in Massachusetts. She was born in Seneca Falls, N.Y. on July 12, 1927, the daughter of the late Vernon and Mildred VanMarter Ford. She attended the University of Rochester at Strong Memorial Hospital, where she became a registered nurse.
She was married on August 20, 1949, to Irving Manning in a double wedding with her sister Janice Ford and his brother Emmett Manning. She worked as a nurse and with Irving raised their three children in Upper Saddle River, N.J.
She earned a music degree in organ from Trinity College of Music, London, and taught piano and organ and was the church organist at Bergen Highlands United Methodist Church in Upper Saddle River, N.J.
She retired to Northville, N.Y., and became organist/choir director at Johnstown Methodist Church. She was also organist with the Gloversville Methodist Church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Northville and a member of the Organ Society in Schenectady.
Survivors include her sister, Beverly Theis (husband, William) of Georges Mills, N.H.; three children, Paul Manning (wife, Susan) of Bringhurst, Indiana, Kathy Labriola (husband, Les) of Franklin, Mass. and Robert Manning (wife, Carolyn) of Lafayette, N.J. Eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews also survive her.
Friends may call on Friday, October 27, 2012, at the Northville Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church of Northville at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Northville.
