Antonetta Brown

Mrs. Antonetta Brown, 88, of Northampton Road, Amsterdam, passed away early Monday morning at the River Ridge Living Center.

Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., on February 6, 1924, a daughter of the late Alfonso and Maria Tambucci Schietromo. She was a lifelong area resident and attended Amsterdam schools.

Mrs. Brown was employed in various mills and stores in Amsterdam. She along with her husband were the owners and operators of the former Browns Records and Gifts for over 18 years and the former B & B Clean Up, both in Amsterdam.

Mrs. Brown was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Amsterdam. She was also a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital. Antonetta enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.

She was married to Donald Brown for over 69 years. They were married on January 17, 1943. In addition to her husband, survivors include two brothers, Anthony "Tony" Schietromo of Schenectady, N.Y., and Alfonso Schietromo of Conn.; daughter-in-law, Sherri Brown of Amsterdam; her grandchildren, Sandy and Steve Moore, Darcey and Ryan Hewson, Chad and Mary Brown, Kerri and Armstead Barker, Betsy and Mike Malpass, and Kyle Brown; great-grandchildren Travis, Kelsey, Austin, Madilynn, Bailey, Alexandra, Rylee, Payton and Lincoln. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by her beloved son Donald L. Brown on September 16, 1987. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Peter Schietromo; and sisters, Josephine Austin, Anna Spraker, Patricia Bush, Violet Perry and Edith Ackerman.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2012, at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, 39 St. John St., Amsterdam, with Father Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends today, October 24, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home.
