Dorothy Jean Achzet

Dorothy Jean Achzet, 85, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. She was a native of Sammonsville and spent most of her life in Johnstown, New York.

Dorothy was the daughter of Irena (Moore) Achzet and Joseph Achzet. She was predeceased by her parents; siblings, Russell, Charles and Anthony; her sister-in-law, Venessa; and her beloved dog, Summer.

Dorothy is survived by sisters, Lillian Parker of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Eleanor Achzet of Johnstown, and Nedra Achzet Freeman of Crown Point, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Margaret (wife of Anthony, deceased). Dorothy is also survived by brothers, Edgar (Betty) Achzet of Gloversville, Bernard (Mary Lou) Achzet of Gloversville, Donald Achzet of Johnstown, Howard (Peggy) Achzet of Johnstown, Douglas (Florence) Achzet of Gloversville, Leland (Patricia) Achzet of Gloversville and Harold (Venessa, deceased) Achzet of Johnstown.

Additionally, 23 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews will miss their beloved Aunt Dorothy.

Dorothy was a devoted member of the Grace Lutheran Church and was dedicated to her parents and family members. She was known for her lively personality, her love for all animals, and her gardening talents-especially with raising beautiful flowers and plants throughout her life. With sister, Eleanor and brother, Donald, the trio gained local fame for the remarkable produce they grew, harvested and sold at their Johnstown home.

She was also an amateur poet who loved and wrote about nature. Her numerous nieces and nephews will always remember her extraordinary way of creating memories, her homemade birthday cakes, and just sharing treasured time with her working in the garden, playing games, or simply having fun. All who knew Dorothy would say she was kind, cheerful, energetic and a friend to all.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 25, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown, with the Reverend David Almleaf officiating. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, October 24, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.
