Raymond H. Gifford

Mr. Raymond H. Gifford, age 89, died Saturday, October 20, 2012, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, with his children at his side.

He was born April 8, 1923, in Johnstown, the son of the late Harry and Anna Ralbovsky Gifford. He was married to Virginia Klempa on July 26, 1952. She died December 3, 2008. They shared 56 years of marriage together.

Ray was a lifelong resident of Johnstown. He was a co-owner of Fulton County Glass Inc. in Gloversville for 42 years. He was a lifetime member of the former St. Anthony's Church in Johnstown, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a third degree member of the Johnstown Knights of Columbus.

Ray and his wife wintered in Deland, Florida and enjoyed their summers at their camp on the Great Sacandaga Lake in Mayfield. He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years.

Survivors include three children: Carol Goodman (Doug) of Ontario, N.Y., John Gifford (Debbie) of Ballston Spa, N.Y. and Christopher Gifford (Elaine) of Red Hook, N.Y.; his twin brother, William Gifford (Virginia) of Venice, Fla.; a sister, Marlene Frasier of Gloversville; five grandchildren, Brett Hawn, Ryan Gifford, Matthew Gifford, Catherine Williams and Rachel Gifford. Also surviving are his aunt, Irma Ralbovsky of Johnstown; several nieces, nephews and many friends at Woodlawn Commons in Saratoga Springs, where he had resided recently.

Ray was predeceased by a son, R. Mark Gifford; and a brother and a sister, Richard Gifford and Annamarie Reed.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. On Wednesday a Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Tribes Hill. The Rev. Patrick Gallagher will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Johnstown.
