PALATINE BRIDGE-The new Big Lots will open Nov. 1.
Filling the outlet left by Ames' departure a decade ago, the new store will be the only department store in western Montgomery County. The store will hold its grand opening Nov. 9 at 9 a.m.
Toni Fink, Big Lots spokeswoman, said there will be giveaways and a ribbon cutting ceremony with local politicians in attendance. Big Lots also will make a donation of $2,500 to the Canajoharie Central School District.
The store is expected to be Dutchtown Plaza's anchor retailer. Currently, the plaza has a Dollar General, Ace Hardware, a U.S. Post Office, McDonalds, Subway, and NAPA Autoparts.
The store will employ 40 people. Fink said Big Lots hopes to have 90 new stores opened since August by November.
