Supporters made local run, walk a success

October 19, 2012
The Leader Herald

The fifth annual Community for a Cure 5k run/walk and 1-mile kids run to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation was held Oct. 7 at Boulevard Elementary?School. The Community for A Cure Planning Committee is pleased to announce this was our most successful year yet.

We couldn't have done it without the many caring individuals who helped make this event asuccess. To our runners and walkers, without you, there is no event; thanks for participating. We are glad to hear you had fun and enjoyed our new course, and we look forward to seeing you next year.

Thanks to the volunteers and individuals who offered their assistance the day of the race on (literally) a moment's notice. Thank you to Tryon Amateur Radio Club, DJ Chris Putman of Party Toons, Brian Seely and Perry Paul, and the Gloversville Police Department, which did an outstanding job managing traffic and leading the race. A special thanks to Sgt. Scott for getting on the police bike so he could lead the race through the portion of the 5k that went through the bike trail.

A new addition to our race prizes this year were more than 50 beta fish and a copy of Reef magazine. The prizes were donated by Steve of Prized Pets and Julie from Seacrest for all our youth participants and some adults. Proforma Shrader and Shrader, one of our sponsors, did a fantastic job with all our printing needs.

We would like to thank all our sponsors; your generosity is greatly appreciated. These include Semione's Professional Cleaning, Steet Toyota, Cotugno Dental, Hudson River Tractor Co., Adirondack Snow Removal, The Flip Inn, Starlite Lanes, Nix Autobody, Patriot Federal Savings Bank, Benjamin Moore Paints, Adirondack Mechanical, Paul's Autobody and Collision Repair, Chad's Second Gear, Carbonelli Travel, Stanyon Financial, 4x Heaven, Adirondack Express Lube, The Frustrated Chefs, Country Farms, One Stop Deli, Kelli Demaio-www.guesttree.com, Active and Well Family Chiropractic and Fulton County Federal Credit Union. Thank you to all who made a contribution or donation in support of our cause.

We'd also like to thank Steve Schloicka and Gloversville Football Alumni.

We appreciate the overwhelming support our community has shown us in hosting this event to raise money for juvenile diabetes. Hopefully, we can all help aid in the research that is necessary for finding a cure for juvenile diabetes.
