Maureen "Phyllis" Kelly, 69, of Gloversville, entered into eternal rest October 11, 2012, at Mountain Valley Hospice House. She was born January 6, 1943, in Ontario, Canada, daughter of the late James and Veronica Dietrich Middleton. Maureen was employed as a bus driver for Brown's Transportation in Fonda for many years.
"Phyllis" as she was known, especially loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many family events. Her hobbies include camping, arts and crafts and numerous puzzles. She was a member of the Gloversville Moose Lodge and a former member of the Eagles in Elmont, N.Y.
Survivors include her children, Maureen Hidalgo (Luis) of Gloversville, John Kelly (Tina) of Canajoharie and Thomas Kelly Jr. of Gloversville. She is also survived by two sisters, Sharon Whitbeck (Bucky) of Gloversville and Susan DiChiara (James) of Kannsaw, Ga.; two brothers, Gerry Griffith of Greenfield Center, N.Y. and Gregory Griffith (Donna) of Maryland. Additional survivors include eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews; her soulmate and father of their children, Thomas Kelly Sr. Phyllis was predeceased by a daughter, Carol Ann Kelly; a brother, Thomas Middleton; two sisters, Eileen Steinlein and Debbie Ann Dury; her stepfather, Herbert Griffith; aunt and uncle, Phil and Carol McGrath.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
