GLOVERSVILLE - A city man was arrested on an outstanding warrant charging him with petit larceny after he was found living in a tent near the Rail Trail.

Christopher Hilts, 46, whose last known permanent address was 22 Lincoln St., was wanted after it was alleged he stole merchandise from Family Dollar on Sept. 29, police said.

Capt. John Sira said the Police Department received a tip that identified Hilts and said he was living off the Rail Trail around West 10th Avenue.

Sira said the department doesn't often find people tenting on the Rail Trail, but it has happened in the past.

"This is something we certainly don't approve for a resident to do," Sira said.

Hilts was arraigned and sent to the county jail by Judge John Clo.
