AMSTERDAM - Suspension training isn't a new concept, but the studio-style TRX Affiliate gym Hosner Fitness offers a unique boutique-style setting for suspension training classes for all physical fitness levels.
Husband and wife team Rob and Lisa Hosner renovated a warehouse space at 1024 Midline Road to be a comfortable 1,140 square-foot gym for group fitness classes.
"Suspension training isn't new; what's new is the type of environment we offer," Lisa said.

Rob is a certified personal trainer, and both Amsterdam natives are certified in TRX group fitness.
The gym opened Sept. 21, but the couple had been hosting outdoor TRX suspension classes, or boot camps, at both Veterans Memorial and Shuttleworth parks in Amsterdam.
When they first started offering classes in March, Perth Fitness offered space. On April 21 the classes moved outside.
The couple said their classes quickly filled, and the gym's Facebook page already has more than 580 "likes."
Many may know Rob as the former manager at the Alpin Haus Fitness Center on Route 30.
He offers personal training and works with many local student athletes.
Ten TRX suspension trainers hang from the ceiling, and each class can accommodate 20 people as the exercises rotate.
"It utilizes all your core muscles, and there is no impact on your joints," Rob said. The TRX systems also can be used for cardiovascular exercise.
Lisa said the first class is always free, and there are specials for referrals.
Classes include yoga infusion, beginners suspension training, core and more and mixed suspension.
People may also participate in the "Chews to lose" program which is a "scale-free zone" that focuses more on health and losing inches.

Hosner Fitness is hosting a breast cancer awareness event Oct. 28 in which 100 percent of the money collected for classes will go to the Cancer Services Program of Fulton & Montgomery Counties.
