Girls Soccer Roundup: Canjo edges Galway in battle of WAC leaders

GALWAY - In a matchup of the North and Central division leaders in the Western Athletic Conference, the Canajoharie girls soccer edged Galway on Friday, 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, all three goals were scored in the final 40 minutes of regulation.

Canajoharie opened the scoring with 28:58 to play when Jenelle Dillenbeck scored on an assist from Jordan Logan.

Abby Spagnola scored the equalizer for Galway with 7:28 remaining on an assist from Felicia Snyder.

With just 1:53 to play, Jordyn Logan scored on an assist from Ariannah Logan to lift the Lady Cougars to the win.

Both Canajoharie goals came after corner kicks.

Lauren Balfe made seven saves to earn the win in goal for Canajoharie (12-1 overall, 11-0 WAC), which has already clinched the WAC Central Division title.

Rebekah Reichard made 10 saves for Galway (9-4 overall, 8-3 WAC), which leads the WAC North Division.

Mekeel Christian 3, St. Johnsville 1

St. JOHNSVILLE - Macie Holmes scored twice to lead Mekeel Christian Academy to a win over St. Johnsville.

Lindsay McCarty also scored for Mekeel Christian (4-4-2 WAC).

Rylie Smith scored the lone goal for St. Johnsville (4-9 overall, 4-7 WAC).

Leann Knapp made 15 saves for St. Johnsville.

Mayfield 0, Fort Plain 0

FORT PLAIN - Mayfield and Fort Plain battled to a scoreless draw.

Mayfield (3-9-1 overall 2-8-1 WAC) will host Galway on Monday at 7 p.m. Fort Plain (2-10-1 overall, 2-8-1 WAC) will host Canajoharie on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Northville 1, Sharon Springs 0

NORTHVILLE - Lyndsey Wadsworth scored the game's only goal to lift Northville to a win.

Kelly VanNostrand assisted on the goal for the Lady Falcons.

Joanna Schulte made two saves to post the shutout win in goal for Northville (5-5-2 overall, 5-4-2 WAC).

Rory Byrnes made 14 saves for Sharon Springs (0-10 WAC).

Foothills Council

Broadalbin-Perth 6, Hudson Falls 0

BROADALBIN - Katie Herba finished with three goals and an assist to lead Broadalbin-Perth to a win.

Heather Cheney, Logan Koubek and Cassidy Washburn also scored for the Lady Patriots. Tori Marotta added an assist for B-P (11-2 overall, 9-2 Foothills).

Colonial Council

Voorheesville 8, Fonda-Fultonville 0

VOORHEESVILLE - Hannah Brackett registered two goals and four assists to lead Voorheesville to a win.

Caroline Weiss scored twice for the Blackbirds, while Chelsea Duncan posted a goal and an assist.

Ashley Bates, Talia Crisafulli and Veda Hensel also scored for Voorheesville (7-5 overall, 7-5 Colonial).

Center State Conference

Frankfort-Schuyler 2, Dolgeville 1

FRANKFORT - Frankfort-Schuyler improved to 5-9 overall with a win over Dolgeville on Thursday.

The Blue Devils slipped to 3-8-2 overall with the loss.
