JEERS - To failing to work together. For years, Gloversville Enlarged School District softball and baseball teams have used fields at the Parkhurst Field Little League complex on Harrison Street. For years, the arrangement has worked. Apparently, officials from Little League recently asked for a formal agreement for the school district's use of the fields. The district's response was to build its own junior varsity baseball and softball fields. The fields will cost the district $18,526. The expense fell under maintenance and repairs, district officials say, and didn't have to go before the school board for approval. We wonder why the construction of fields would come under maintenance and repairs. We also wonder about the location of the new baseball field at Boulevard Elementary School. Part of the field overlaps a soccer field, and batted baseballs could hit nearby businesses and the school's playground. It's too bad school district and Little League officials couldn't have continued their arrangement. The partnership made sense. It benefited the school district and Little League. Those involved should have taken another swing at making it work.
