Shayne Todd Walters, 49, of Esperance Road, town of Charleston, died suddenly Monday, October 8, at the Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
Mr. Walters was born January 31, 1963, in Cobleskill, a son of Alfred J. and Jean A. (Barnard) Walters. He graduated from Fonda-Fultonville High School and began his working career as a self-employed truck driver. After living in the south for a time, he and his wife, Laurie returned to the family home in Charleston where he drove a truck for Price Chopper. His affection for draft horses brought him to begin a back-woods logging business that he operated for many years. He was an avid horseman and enjoyed training, showing and driving draft horses. Shayne was elected Supervisor for the Town of Charleston in 2003 and was currently serving as the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors for Montgomery County.
Mr. Walters was an accomplished musician playing mostly string instruments and also the piano. He and his wife served as music coordinators for the Randall Christian Church where he was a member. He also was a member of the Schoharie Valley Antique Car Club, was appointed to the board of directors of the Cobleskill Fair, served on the Montgomery County Republican Committee and was a member of the fish and wildlife conservation club for Montgomery County. He enjoyed restoring antique motorcycles, riding motorcycles and hill-climbing along with restoring antique cars.
Survivors include his wife, Laurie Ann (Proper) Walters, whom he married January 4, 1986; a son, John Foti; a daughter, Frankie Foti; his mother, Jean Walters of Charleston; one brother, Michael Loiodice of Maryland; two nephews, Brian and Michael Loiodice; and a grandniece, Lilly Loiodice. He was predeceased by his father; and a sister, Gabrielle Duffy.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 12, at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main St., Schoharie, followed by a prayer and remembrance service. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Shayne Walters will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, at the Randall Christian Church, State Route5S, Randall, N.Y. Burial will be private.
