CHARLESTON-Montgomery County and state officials mourned the loss of Montgomery County Board of Supervisors Chairman and Charleston Supervisor Shayne Walters on Tuesday.
Flags were at half-mast in Montgomery County Tuesday, and the normal committee meetings were rescheduled.
Walters died Monday due to complications from the treatment he received for colon cancer.
Board of Supervisors Vice Chairman John Thayer said he will be conduct county business until a new chairman is elected.
U.S. Rep. Paul Tonko, D-Amsterdam, expressed his sympathy to family and friends of Walters.
"Shayne's dedication and passion for our community will forever be among his many legacies," Tonko said.
Funeral services are scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Langdon Funeral Home Friday in Schoharie and 2 p.m. Saturday at Randall Christian Church in Randall.
