ALTAMONT - Gloversville's Josh Fonda was the lone area golfer to advance to the second round of competition at the Section 2 Class ABCD state-qualifying tournament Tuesday.
Fonda carded an eight-over-par round of 79 at Orchard Creek Golf Club to finish tied for 11th and earn one of the 16 spots available for Thursday's final round.
"Josh [Fonda] had a pretty good round," Gloversville coach Mark LeFever said. "The greens were pretty slick and putting was difficult. He'll have to shoot a good round on Thursday to continue."
Bethlehem's Victor Fox posted a two-under-par round of 69 to earn medalist honors.
Also qualifying for Thursday's second round were Niskayuna's Aaron Simone (72), Voorheesville's Matt Parrottino (72), Niskayuna's Luke Goldstock (74), Catholic Central's Corey Purcell (74), Glens Falls' Alex Gibson (75), Shaker's Bobby Caniff (75), Shaker's Davis Jensen (75), Saratoga Springs' Calvin Beckwith (76), Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake's Tom Kenneally (78), Niskayuna's Brian Daley (79), Scotia-Glenville's David Renko (80), Albany Academy's Thomas Cassidy (80), Scotia-Glenville's Mike Dwyer (80) and Bethlehem's Matt Mastrianni (80).
