A recent article in The Leader-Herald said that "New York's residential centers for the developmentally disabled cost Medicaid about $1.9 million a year for each patient...".
To put it in perspective, if my math is correct, that is about $217 per hour for each and every hour in the entire year.
No, not 40 hours a week. No, not 100 hours a week. That's 168 hours a week for 52 weeks a year - that's 8,736 hours of around the clock care.
That's outrageous! I'm almost positive these caregivers are not getting $200 an hour or $150 an hour or even close to $100 hour.
So where's the money going?
