DUDLEY, Mass. - Anna Dyakiv, an Amsterdam graduate and a junior on the Nichols College women's tennis team, was named the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performance last week.
Dyakiv dropped her only set of the week in a 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 triumph in a key CCC match at Endicott on Wednesday. Later in the contest, the junior teamed with senior Jillian McQuiggan (Weymouth, Mass.) to deliver the decisive fifth point with an 8-2 victory.
On Friday, Dyakiv picked up her 40th career doubles victory and claimed her 20th career regular season CCC triumph without a loss to help the Bison defeat Roger Williams, 6-3. Less than 24 hours later, the two-time conference Player of the Year collected her 40th career singles win as she finished the week 3-0 at both singles and doubles. The result on Saturday also marked the 30th consecutive CCC regular season victory for the Bison.
"Anna had a tremendous week," Nichols head women's tennis coach Paul Brower said in a news release. "Her wins against Roger Williams and Endicott were clutch in helping us gain home court in the playoffs. It is always good to see a player successfully return from an injury, and I could not be more proud of the way so many players stepped up to fill the void in her absence. Hopefully all of this experience will set us on the right track to take home the CCC title this season."
Top-seeded Nichols (11-4 overall, 8-0 CCC) hosts either fourth-seeded Curry or fifth-seeded Western New England on Oct. 17 at 2 p.m. in the CCC women's tennis championship semifinals.
