Mrs. Bertha I. Proctor, 90, of Gloversville, passed away September 28, 2012, at the Fulton Center. She was born July 10, 1922, in Fall River, Mass., daughter of the late Joseph and Alexina Loux Bechard. Mrs. Proctor was educated in the former Corbins Hill School in Charleston Four Corners, Montgomery County. Early in her life, she was a glove worker at the former Daniel Hayes Company. She retired several years ago after many years service as a private duty domestic.
Bertha was a former member of The Church of the Holy Spirit, Ida McGinnis Center, and the Gloversville Democratic Club. She enjoyed knitting and collecting antiques, especially salt and pepper shakers.
Survivors include her children, Nancy Hayes (Norman), Marie Mosher (Richard), Robert Bechard and his companion, Judy Berger, all of Gloversville, and Donald Proctor and his companion, Sharon Perry of Mayfield. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and her great-nephew, Arthur Jones of North Carolina, who she raised. Bertha was predeceased by a brother, Xavier (Joseph) Bechard; and her sisters, Bella Bruce, Alice Anderson, Blanche Ayers and Annette Bechard. She was also predeceased by her husband, Clyde Proctor in 1986.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., with the Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Urn burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery.
