Gordon E. Hess, age 90 of Johnstown, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2012 at the Mountain Valley Hospice House, Gloversville. Mr. Hess was born on July 28, 1922, in Johnstown, the son of the late Clarence Hess and Ethelyn Stafford Hess. He was a class of 1941 graduate of Johnstown High School and completed his technical training in aircraft riveting and assembly at the National Defense School in Plattsburgh. Gordon honorably served his country in the Pacific Theatre during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Technical Sergeant. He worked for many years as a layout man for General Electric in Schenectady, retiring in 1984.
Gordon was a member of the St. Patrick's Masonic Lodge No. 4, Johnstown and life member of VFW Post 510, Johnstown. He was also a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club. Mr. Hess is survived by his three sons Lt. Col. Alan J. Hess, USAF (Retired) and his wife Mary Beth of Southport, North Carolina, Fred Hess of Harrington, Maine and John Hess of Amsterdam, one sister Patricia Orlosky of Gloversville and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 8th at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Inc., 215 East Main Street, Johnstown with the Dr. Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. Family and friends may call on Sunday, October 7, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fort Plain Cemetery, Fort Plain with military honors.
