JOHNSTOWN - The Fulton County Sheriff's Department is looking to extend contracts to benefit both its staff and county jail inmates.
Undersheriff Kevin Lenahan proposed new contracts involving deputies' uniforms and inmate dental services to the Board of Supervisors' Public Safety Committee last week at the County Office Building.
The committee passed a proposed resolution to exercise the option of extending the county Sheriff's Department's uniform contract with United Uniform of Rochester for an additional year. The full board will consider final passage of the resolution Tuesday.
The current uniform contract is scheduled to end Dec. 31.
"Next year, we'll have to put it out for bid again," Lenahan said.
He said there is an option built into United Uniform's contract that the contract can be extended one year past the expiration date if both parties agree.
Lenahan said Sheriff Thomas Lorey reviewed the contract and is "pleased" with the performance of the current vendor, recommending extension. Current pricing, not specified by Lenahan, will be maintained with no increase.
The committee also proposed the county award contract renewal for inmate dental services at the county jail. The current contract with Dentrust Dental expires Dec. 31. The full board will consider final passage of the resolution Tuesday.
Lenahan said the contract allows for renewal in one-year increments for two additional years under the same terms and conditions. The proposed $30,000 contract will run from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2013.
"The anticipated renewal would be for what services they provide," Lenahan said.
County Administrative Officer Jon Stead said the $30,000 figure is a "projection based on our trends."
