H.S. Golf Roundup: Six area golfers advance to state tourney qualifier

FORT JOHNSON - Five area golfers were among those advancing to the Section 2 Class ABCD state qualifying tournament at the Section 2 Class B Championships on Wednesday at Rolling Hills Country Club.

Glens Falls' Alex Gibson posted the low round of the day with a four-over-par 74.

Gloversville's Josh Fonda finished second with a 76, while Gloversville's Kevin Johnston and Catholic Central's Corey Purcell tied for third with rounds of 77. Broadalbin-Perth's Cody Husek was fifth with a 78.

Gloversville's James Snyder and Broadalbin-Perth's Alex Bond tied for ninth with rounds of 83.

Also advancing to the ABCD qualifier were Scotia-Glenville's David Renko (sixth, 79), Scotia-Glenville's Mike Dyer (seventh, 81), Schuylerville's Ian Delaney (eighth, 82) and Schuylerville's Matt Ricci (ninth, 83).

Broadalbin-Perth's Brett Getman also competed, posting a round of 88.

Schuylerville won the team title with a total of 333, while Scotia-Glenville was second with a 334 total. Glens Falls (353) was third and Johnstown (358) was fourth.

Josh Brown led Johnstown with an 85, while Jerry Groom posted an 87. Richie Lee recorded a 92 for the Sir Bills and Chris Geleta added a 94.

The Section 2 Class ABCD state-qualifying tournament will take place Tuesday at Orchard Creek Golf Club in Altamont.

Class C-D

SCHENECTADY - Matt Parrottino shot a four-under-par 68 to lead Voorheesville to the Section 2 Class C-D team title at Schenectady Municipal Golf Course.

The Blackbirds finished with a team total of 321, while Greenwich was second with a 336. Stillwater (344) was third, Hoosic Valley (351) was fourth, Taconic Hills (362) was fifth and Berne-Knox-Westerlo (367) was sixth.

Northville-Mayfield's Jordan Fordyce advanced to the ABCD state qualifier after finishing tied for third with a round of 80.

Also advancing to the ABCD qualifier were Greenwich's Greg Scott (second, 77), Coxsackie-Athens' Connor LeClair (third, 80), Stillwater's John Hoin (third, 80), Stillwater's Cameron D'Aloia (sixth, 81), Duanesburg's Pat McGarry (seventh, 82), Tamarac's Anthony Giamei (eighth, 83), Fort Ann's Cody Holmes (eighth, 83), Duanesburg's Sean McGarry (eighth, 83), Greenville's Brenner Bachman (11th, 84), Voorheesville's David Malfetano (11th, 84), Hoosic Valley's Matt Espey (11th, 84), Voorheesville's Grace Ziamandanis (11th, 84), Fort Ann's Brandon Nassivera (11th, 84) and Taconic Hills' Gavin Stosiek (11th, 84).

Class A

COLONIE - Bethlehem's Victor Fox and Shaker's Davis Jensen shared top individual honors at the Section 2 Class A Championships at the Town of Colonie Golf Course.

Both Fox and Jensen each carded three-under-par rounds of 69.

Bethlehem won the team title with a total of 295, while Shaker was second with a 298. Niskayuna (312) was third, Saratoga Springs (317) was fourth and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (318) was fifth.

Also advancing to next Tuesday's Class ABCD qualifier were Bethlehem's Jeff Palmerino (third, 72), Shaker's Hunter Donovan (fourth, 73), Bethlehem's Joe Kapcynnski (fifth, 75), Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake's Tom Keaneally (fifth, 75), Niskayuna's Aaron Simone (fifth, 75), Shenendehowa's Bobby McCarthy (fifth, 75), Saratoga Springs' Calvin Beckwith (ninth, 76), Ballston Spa's Zach Scala (10th, 77), Albany Academy's Thomas Cassidy (11th, 79), Bethlehem's Matt Mastrianni (11th, 79), Guilderland's Alex Gillingham (11th, 79), Niskayuna's Brian Daley (11th, 79) and Shaker's Tanner Donovan (11th, 79).
