CHEERS - To a platinum day. In 1942, while President Franklin Roosevelt was having a fireside chat with America, Charles Farrar may have been proposing to Iona Duross. They both knew their marriage would face what so many others did during the years of World War II - an immediate separation, as he would join his fellow Americans in fighting for our freedoms. Yet, they were married on Sept. 27, 1942. On Sunday, surrounded by a family filled with love and appreciation for this matriarch and patriarch, Charles and Iona will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. It's been written that the trick to love isn't to recall the past but keep the past alive in the future. We're sure the Farrars' recollection of picnics on Bunkerhill Road or the countless hours spent on the Great Sacandaga will put smiles of their faces as they celebrate.
