Women charged after boat accident

The Leader Herald

NORTHAMPTON - Two women from Schenectady County were charged with second-degree obstruction of governmental administration after a third woman fell off a boat and suffered severe cuts on her left arm Monday in the Great Sacandaga Lake.

State police at Mayfield said Lindsay R. Wolbert, 26, of Rotterdam Junction and Brandy Romanowski, 26, of Rotterdam were charged after Bridget Conover fell off the boat while riding on the Sacandaga Lake.

The two were charged because they left the scene before the responding officer was done interviewing them, troopers said.

Wolbert, who was driving the boat, and Romanowski said they thought Conover jumped off the boat, but they did not actually see her jump.

Once treated and released from Albany Medical Center Hospital, Conover said she was taking pictures on the front of the boat when it bucked, and she fell off and went under the boat.

Wolbert also was charged with reckless operation.

Wolbert and Romanowski were issued tickets to appear at 3 p.m. Oct. 11 in Northampton Town Court.
