As it has been for many years, the No. 12 will be a prominent feature at Fonda Speedway, especially this weekend.

Fonda Speedway brings its 60th consecutive season of racing to a close with a two-day race extravaganza honoring all its past track champions from the six decades of racing at the "Track of Champions.

Saturday's racing card will feature modifieds battling 40-laps for $4,000-to-win along with the 602 sportsman, street stocks, four-cylinders and the Empire Super Sprints.

The 602s will run for $500 to win, while the Street stocks will battle for $500-to-win and dropping back $100 each spot to $100 for fifth.

The 4-cylinders will pay $300 to win, $200 for second and $100 for third.

The ESS sprint cars also are on the Saturday program for their championship finale. The battle for the ESS series championship is tight heading into the finale.

Lance Yonge leads Chuck "Cobra" Hebing by three points, 1,631-1,628 heading to Fonda.

Palmer's Service is also giving away back-to-school backpacks and bikes during Saturday's program.

Pit gates open at 11 a.m. and the front gate at noon Saturday. Racing begins at 2 p.m.

There are plenty of changes and bonuses on tap for the fans and drivers.

The traditional 100-lap season-ending modified main event has been upped to 112-laps paying $12,000 to the winner. Dollars also will be on the line in the heat races as the winners will receive $1,200. You can imagine how hotly contested those qualifiers will be.

The 602s return Sunday for a $1,200-to-win feature, with heat-race winners receiving $120, and the pro stock feature will also pay $1,200 to win.

In case you haven't figured it out, the 12s are honoring 11-time modified track champion and 149 modified feature winner Jumpin' Jack Johnson and his trademark No. 12A.

Pit gates open at 1 p.m. Sunday and the front gate at 2 p.m. Racing is scheduled to get under way at 4 p.m.

2012 Fonda Yearbooks

The 2012 fonda Speedway yearbook, published by The Leader-Herald, will be available both days at the speedway. It is a bargain for $2.
