Seniors work at festival

September 21, 2012
The Leader Herald

It is with great pleasure and pride that I write to let the people of Gloversville know what a talented bunch of senior citizens they have in their local senior center.

On Saturday, about a dozen ladies from the center's weekly painting group will share the fruits of their labor: months of earnest, detailed work on oil paintings that will knock your socks off. The "girls" will exhibit their work in conjunction with the third annual Harvest Fun Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the farmers market.

In this multi-generational partnership with the Gloversville-Johnstown Kiwanis Club, the seniors will be working alongside younger volunteers to offer the community some good old-fashioned fun: throwing apple sauce, bowling with cabbages and wolfing down pie, among other activities.

As the most recent consultant for the seniors' painting group, I am so pleased to be part of this intergenerational experiment and so proud of what these ladies have accomplished. Please come out and support their efforts.
