Lucille M. Grabowski, age 89, of Johnstown, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2012, at her residence.
Lucille was a lover of life, a writer extraordinaire, and a shining example of how life is to be lived. Ever optimistic, ever positive, she was always a pleasure to visit; often a welcome ray of sunshine on an otherwise gray and cloudy day.
She could paint; she could write; she could laugh and sing. A renaissance woman in every sense of the word. A gentle and shining light left for another realm today - a light the world could use and which will be sorely missed.
Lucille was born on February 20, 1923, in Herkimer, a daughter of the late James Greene and Florence Fernier Greene. She graduated from Herkimer High School and received an associate's degree from Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Mrs. Grabowski was employed for many years as a social worker at the former Fulton County Mental Health Clinic in Johnstown, retiring in 1987.
She is survived by one son, Joseph J. Grabowski and his life mate, Carol Matousek of Lyons, Colorado; two daughters, Lynne B. Grabowski of Johnstown and Sara J. Luck and her husband, Richard of Johnstown; three grandchildren, Thomas Kovarovic, Christopher Kovarovic and Sean Kovarovic; one sister, Mary Greene of Rochester; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Grabowski was predeceased by three brothers James, Thomas and John Greene; three sisters, Pauline Greene, Shirley Campbell and Chloetilde Greene and her nanny, Mary Warren.
In keeping with Lucille's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.
Cremation was at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the St. John's Episcopal Church Food Pantry, 1 N. Market Street, Johnstown, NY 12095, or to the Domestic Violence Outreach at the Family Counseling Center of Fulton County Inc., 11-21 Broadway, Gloversville, NY 12078.
