JOHNSTOWN - A Gloversville man was charged at 12:15 a.m. Sunday after state troopers at Fonda responded to a report of a fight at the Fulton-Montgomery Community College student housing.

Basit A. Alaka, 18, was charged with three misdemeanors, including inciting to riot, resisting arrest and unlawful assembly, and a violation charge of disorderly conduct.

Police said when a trooper arrived after the report Sunday, a group of people was in the parking lot. Public safety officers informed the trooper there had been a fight and were trying to identify a male subject.

Police said officers eventually identified the subject as Alaka. Police said officers asked Alaka for his identification, but Alaka claimed he didn't have one. When asked for his name, police said, Alaka swore at the officers and began screaming to the crowd in an attempt to get them involved. When he was removed from a vehicle, police said, Alaka continued to resist and screamed, "Is that all you got?"

The group began to surround the trooper before Alaka was handcuffed, police said.

Alaka was being held at the Fulton County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear in Johnstown Town Court on Sept. 19 at 6 p.m.
